Taraji teamed her sheer ensemble with gold stilettos and accessorized with a diamond-encrusted Chanel necklace.

Her raven tresses were styled with a soft wave, adding texture to her freshly chopped bangs, which seemed to channel 1950s pin-up star Betty Page.

She tucked her hands in her pockets for a few photos, hiding only for a moment her pointy nude polished acrylics.

The Oscar-nominee opted for a night-friendly makeup look, wearing smoky eye shadow, voluminous false lashes as well as a crimson lip stain.

Taraji P Henson celebrated her birthday in New York last night and boy did she make an entrance.

The actress looked incredible in a see through dress by Moschino that proved age is just a number when you've got a body like Taraji's. Shirt dresses are a style staple and can be found in most women's wardrobes.

But of course Jeremy Scott took it to the next level by making his Resort 2016 version a sheer sensation. It's not available to buy just yet but if you fancy checking out the current line then click (right) to shop it at Luisaviaroma.com.

Or recreate Taraji's daring look with one of the dresses in our edit below. Marc by Marc Jacobs, Glamorous and Rare London have racy options but we prefer Asos' version with its tie waist and more demure take on the trend.

Also joining Taraji to commemorate the momentous occasion was her Empire co-star Ta'Ronda Jones as well as co-creator of the music industry based soap opera, Lee Daniels.

Mary J. Blidge also pulled out the stops for her appearance, putting on a leggy display in a little black dress with silver stud embellishments.

The Family Affair crooner rocked a chic blonde 'do, pairing her ensemble with pointed toe pumps that drew attention to the flower tattoo located on her upper thigh.

She took to Instagram the day before with a sweet message: 'Happy Birthday to my beautiful, amazingly talented sister & friend @tarajiphenson!!!! I hope you are having the best day ever wherever you are and I will see you tomorrow!!!! Love you so much!!!!'

While inside the East Village venue, Taraji was all smiles while being greeted by a three-tier birthday cake with a lion placed on the top.

Known for her boisterous personality, she had a blast while dipping her finger in the cake before blowing out the candles aside a bevvy of A-listers.

Seen behind her was Jussie Smullet, who portrays her son Jamal in the highly-anticipated series, as well as Crazy, Stupid, Love actress Marissa Tomei.

The beauty was also surrounded by a plethora of gifts, but made sure to take time out to pose with a giant golden pen which was used to write personal messages for her birthday.

Her sultry display was actually her second look for the evening, considering hours before she was dressed in yet another black dress that featured a red, white and champagne panel down the side.

Taraji had plenty to celebrate, considering it was also the premiere of Fox's second season of Empire, which turned out to be a smash success in its debut season.

In attendance was Naomi Campbell, Gabourey Sidibe, and Taraji's on-screen ex-husband Terrence Howard, who brought his ex-wife Mira Pak less than a month after divorce rumors.

The birthday girl even enjoyed having a song dedicated to her by Howard and Smullet, taking the stage to groove by her co-stars while soaking up her moment in all it's glory.

Taraji will next be featured as the cover star on the October issue of Glamour Magazine, looking stunning in a bright orange frock with a metallic gold belt.

She gave fans an insight on her views regarding her character Cookie, dishing: 'After 17 years in prison, Cookie feels there is nothing to fear. She made it out alive. In her mind that’s how strong she is.'

The Baby Boy star also noted about her personal struggles, becoming pregnant while striving to be an actress: 'I didn't have time to go to the club to 'network.' That's B.S. No business deals go down at the club. So I didn't get caught up in that. I had a mission. I had to make my dream come true.'

Her determination, of course, paid off with her latest role earning her an Emmy nod - making her one of the most popular characters on television.

Dream team: Taraji captioned the Empire group pic: 'I really love everyone in this picture!!!!! Tonight a dream is realized when I get to perform at #CarnegieHall. Why dream small when you can #DreamBIG?'
